Connecting Art and Science

Many parents and child care providers don’t always think about the connection of art and science. According to this Teaching Young Children article “when children use art materials, they make science discoveries. Adding water makes clay softer or paint thinner. You can use a glue stick to attach a scrap of paper, but it takes stronger glue to attach a pebble to a collage.” This article has great ideas and photos for both teachers and parents.

WC4C is offering a special scholarship opportunity for Williamson County Child Care Services (CCS) Providers:

REGISTRATION CLOSED

“Early Words”– Pre-K Literacy Training
20 Hours of FREE Training
for Pre – K Teachers

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Dates: October 30, 2010, December 11, 2010, February 19, 2011, April 9, 2011

Location: Community Resource Building 805 W. University Georgetown, TX 78626

Teachers must complete scholarship application and submit by Sept. 30, 2010. Limited enrollment: 40 teachers. Only one Pre- K teacher from a center may apply for the scholarship & must commit to attending all 4 Saturday Trainings.

Each teacher will receive a teacher’s resource book titled, Literacy, The Creative Curriculum Approach. Additionally, upon completion of all 20 hours of training, each teacher will receive Pre-K Literacy resources for their classroom.

Funding is made available by a grant received from United Way Williamson County.
